1947 Cushman

My husband, Gard, has a knack for spotting things where I do not.  So, the other day as we are heading down the road the he says to me, “Did you see that?!"   And as usual, I say "No, what was it?"

We make a safe U-turn and there before our eyes is a thing from his past, his first love, a 1947 Cushman Scooter.

When he was in the ninth grade, his father bought him a 1947 Cushman Truckster (close) at a farm auction for $17.50 and made Gard the happiest 14 year old in the state of New York.  From what I have heard, my husband being the ever dutiful child, was only allowed to make laps around their 1 acre yard with the truckster resulting in a yard devoid of any grass whatsoever.  I believe it, because we have driven by his old home just a few years ago and no grass.  It was his introduction to the art of shifting gears and I am told he became an expert stick shifter.  Then sadly, just as many first loves do, it came to an end.   The family moved to Louisiana and Gard had to leave his Truckster behind.

Fast forward to the present, this Cushman is a glorious full on restoration.  It has a new motor, air ride adjustable suspension, blue dot taillights and looks squeaky clean. And it is just waiting to make a lucky someone the new proud owner for only $5,000.  Not bad  :^).

Old school VW trikes and more!

Last night, we were at Lowe's for the umpteenth time that day.  As we were loading up our car we heard the rumble and roar of some really good sounding bikes approaching.  We looked up, saw them heading up the road past us, loaded the car and pursued them!  We found them at Taco Mac.  We introduced ourselves and asked if we could take some photos for my blog.  They were some very nice people with some very nice bikes and trikes. Here are the pictures!

A Wise Choice in Paint Color..

We were out riding around the other day and a serious "go back" moment presented itself to us.  So, we had to go back and take a closer look.  See if you can guess what it was that caught our eye.  : ^)

Yep, that's it,

here it is up close.

It is a Honda with a beautiful day-glo orange paint job.  It almost appears fuzzy in the photo from the sheer glow of the paint!  Why, think of the various situations were this could be a plus!  .... You often lose your car in parking lots.  You've been a repeat dui offender, watch out for me everyone!  Live in an area prone to car theft.  The applications could be nearly endless.

Anyway, I liked it and it gave me a chuckle!

93 Harley Davidson with Vance & Hines exhaust and Edelbrock intake.

Today, we were over in Canton kitten brokering – that’s delivering one of daughter’s cat’s kittens to its new forever home.  We took advantage of a break in the monsoons that we’ve been having around here lately and dropped in at Cycle Nation to look around.
A salesman had rolled a very nice Harley out into the parking lot and started it up.  It was built on a 1993 frame and had a lot of chrome, including a chromed swing arm.  It had a Vance and Hines exhaust and an Edelbrock intake, sounded really great when he started it. All I had to capture this was my cell phone - here it is.

I hope everyone is safe while enjoying this Memorial Day weekend coming up.  Remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.  Here is a short clip of our city's, Cumming GA, Veterans Memorial Park.

Such Puchs!

The other morning, my husband and I met up with family for a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast at  Thumbs Up Diner in Decatur.  Little did we know, French toast and omelets weren't the only delicacies being served up.  A group of cool young riders were also enjoying breakfast al fresco and had their mopeds huddled together nearby.  We got some photos of them parked and then we had the chance to get a short video of them tearing off into the mayhem of Atlanta traffic.

Some cool bikes I spotted at a gas station in middle Georgia!

My hubby and I went to visit his dad for dinner the other night.  On the way home we stopped at a gas station and I spotted some really cool bikes on a trailer.

Two of them were old, shaft driven 50 cc Yamaha scooters, first time I have ever seen those.  Another bike was a 1978 KZ900 that the owner said had a 1,000 cc motor swapped into it.   His car was even cool, a 1965 Chevy that looked great, and pulling those classic bikes behind it was a true sight to see!

Here is my helmet, I want to tell you about the really neat modifications I made to it.  It is a GMax helmet.

I think it's a good helmet, comfortable fit for me and lots of vents provide good airflow. DOT approved, of course.  I did read a review where the reviewer said it saved his life.

Now, back to my mods. I found a great online resource to buy reflective decals, StreetGlo.net.  They stock a huge selection of reflective decals, stickers and lettering.  Actually, I must warn you that you may spend hours trying to decide which design to buy, there are so many to pick from!  Being the bargain hunter that I am, I finally decided on the WHOOPS!  I BOUGHT REJECTS! deal.  I received a box of cut vinyl stickers, some near perfect, some slightly flawed and some just totally messed up.... I had a blast designing a pattern for my helmet, I stayed up until almost 3 am until I had it almost completely covered!  It looks good and all the reflective helps keep me safer!

Here is my helmet, it's in my motorcycle gear closet and I am shinning a flashlight on it to activate the decals!

Here with the helmet LEDs turned on.

Today, I am out having a great time with my husband enjoying some Sunday afternoon shopping, boosting the economy.  As we were leaving the Bargain Barn in Jasper, we spotted three sharp-looking motorcycles in the parking lot.  We pulled our truck around to take a closer look.  And funny thing, we weren't the only ones looking, two other vehicles pulled up with us at the same time.

They were a Honda Valkyrie, a Kawasaki Vulcan and a Yamaha Star.

How about this six pipe exhaust, I would have liked to heard it running.

Then, a little further down the road, as we are slowly rolling through downtown Ball Ground a couple of Harleys caught our eye. One had some nice color changing leds lighting it up. We met the riders, who had stopped in at Frankfurt Doner and Meats, as many people do, to pick up some good meats.  It's an authentic German butcher meat/sausage shop right on the main thoroughfare, highly recommended.
